History of Black Forest

Up until the turn of the twentieth century, the nearly 120 square miles of land now known as Black Forest was originally comprised of a larger 1000 square mile parcel called the Pineries, stretching as far west as Divide, Colorado. Early settlers of Black Forest utilized the vast timber resources for railroad ties, further advancing the construction of the major railroad systems during the latter part of the 1800’s. The majority of the residential development and comprehensive planning of recent times took place during the 1970’s and 1980’s, beginning with the Black Forest Preservation Plan of 1974.

Black Forest is located approximately 20 minutes north of downtown Colorado Springs and just 7 miles east of Interstate 25 at Interquest Parkway. Residents can enjoy the best of both worlds, living in a peaceful and remote location along with taking advantage of quick access to the nearby amenities of the city. The major boundaries are Highway 83 to the west, County Line Road to the north, Eastonville Road to the east and a combination of Shoup Road, Old Ranch Road, Woodmen Road and Stapleton Road to the south.
